John 6:44
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
When it comes to soul winning, there are several mindsets and actions I use so that I may lead people to Christ. I realize the importance of what we do as believers when we go soul winning, and that importance is that there is a real Hell where people will spend an eternity if somebody doesn't reach them.
I have been soul winning since I was seven years of age. My aunt, Bessie Parr, is the one who trained me how to lead someone to Christ. After she trained me, I was able to lead my friend Francisco to Christ, which was the first of many that I have led to Christ. Let me share several tips I have learned over the years that will help you to be a better soul winner.
First, realize the Father must draw the lost to Christ. Jesus made it clear that no man can come to Jesus except the Father which hath sent me draw him. One of my daily prayers is to ask God to send me to those who He is drawing to Christ. I realize not everyone is being drawn at the moment, but I do believe that someone is being drawn by the Father to Christ every day. I want to find that person so I can lead them to Christ. If you want to be a successful soul winner, you should pray daily for God to lead you to that person who is being drawn to Christ.
Second, I lift up my eyes to see people. John 4:35 says, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. When I go soul winning, I do not just look to knock on doors. Often, I see people outside walking around, and I realize this person could be the one who needs to be saved. I will often leave where I am to talk to the person who is crossing my path because God may have had them cross my path because He knows I will witness to them. If you want to be successful at soul winning, don't be so focused on where you are going, but lift up your eyes and talk to the first person you see; it just may be that person is the one whose heart is ready to receive the Gospel.
Third, I let the Gospel do the work. Romans 1:16 says, For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Too many try to make the Gospel difficult when they just need to give the simple Gospel and let it do the work in the heart of the lost. My friend, the Gospel is powerful in its simplicity; stop trying to help the Gospel because you take away its power by trying to help it. When I am soul winning, I realize I need to trust the power of the Gospel, for the Gospel does the work in the heart of the lost, even though I cannot see it doing the work.
Fourth, I always give people a chance to get saved. Romans 10:14 says, How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? Preachers give an invitation when they are done preaching, and you must give an invitation to the lost if they are to get saved. Giving the Gospel and not inviting them to be saved is a waste of a great opportunity to see people get saved. Never be afraid to ask people to accept Christ. If they have listened to you present the Gospel, the Gospel has done its work in their heart, but you must give an invitation if they are to be saved.
