Where to Learn Parenting Tips

Judges 13:8

Then Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.

Every parent wants their child to turn out right, but knowing how to teach them so they will turn out right is one of the great complexities that many parents struggle with. Samson’s parents had the same struggle of knowing how to train their child in the right way. Let’s face it, every child is different, and knowing how to train each child for right is difficult. Each child is their own entity with their own personality, and each child has their own strengths and weaknesses. Samson’s parents were wise enough to ask God, teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born. Let me share several ways to learn parenting tips on training your children for God.

First, study God’s Word. In the pages of God’s Word are the instructions from which every parent can glean on how to train children for God. God’s Word has timeless instructions for parents to use to train their children that work in every generation. Never acquire the mindset that what God’s Word teaches won't work in our day. The only reason God’s instructions don't work in training children is because parents won't follow those instructions. You cannot pick and choose which instructions you want to follow; you must follow every directive in the instructions if they are to work. God’s instructions are a package deal that must be completely followed for them to work. You must study God’s Word if you are to find those instructions to train your children.

Second, spend much time in prayer praying for wisdom on how to train your children. God gave Samson’s parents the wisdom to train Samson because they prayed. James 1:5 says, If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. You should daily ask God for wisdom in training your children, but you should especially spend extra time in prayer asking God for wisdom in training your children when you have hit a brick wall and don't know what to do.

Third, be faithful to every church service. There will be sermons preached and lessons taught that God will use to give you the wisdom you need to train your child. When you miss any service, you are likely missing the truths that you will need at that moment. Not only will the sermons and lessons help you, but they will help the child you are trying to train. Be faithful to church because you will hear one illustration, one truth, or one example that will help you cross a threshold you are struggling with in training your child.

Fourth, ask your pastor, your parents, or older godly adults for advice. God places people in your life to help you when you hit the wall with your children. The greatest mistake you can make is to ignore the wisdom around you because your pride gets in the way of asking for advice. Only the parent who forges through on their own will miss the advice they need to train their child.

Fifth, read parenting books written by godly people who believe like you. Do not read books by people who don't believe like you because they are not training children for the same purpose that you are. Read books of likeminded people, because their books may have one illustration you will need that will help you to turn your children out for right.
