Mark 8:4
And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?
Jesus had just finished preaching to four thousand people, and they were about to take their journeys home. However, Jesus was just as concerned with their physical well-being as much as He was concerned for their spiritual well-being. He said to His disciples, I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat: And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far. The answer the disciples gave was the wrong answer. They said, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness? You will notice that they said, From whence can a man…. They should have asked, How is Christ going to show His power to provide? They looked at the situation from the perspective of how a man can provide instead of looking at it through God’s power.
Most of us are just like the disciples in that we look at the impossibility of the present situations through the provision of man’s abilities, and that is why we think it is impossible. Imagine how our attitude and perception would change if we looked at every impossibility with this question: What miracle will God do to make this possible? Most impossibilities stay impossible because we look at them through man’s abilities instead of looking at them through God’s power. We look at how can we build a church in today’s world that is so indifferent toward Christ instead of looking at it by how can God use me with His power to build this church. We look at how hard a person is toward the Gospel instead of looking at how the power of the Gospel can get through the heart of this hardened individual.
Our perception of how we look at things really does matter. If we look at it through a negative mindset of how can man do this, what we face will always stay the same. We have already defeated ourselves because we looked at the impossible situation the wrong way. Let me share a couple ways you can look at the impossible situations in your life.
First, look at every impossible situation as an opportunity for God to do the miraculous. What is impossible with man is exactly when God can step in and show His power. God wants to show His power through your life, and the only way He can do this is to allow you to face the impossible so that He can show you that He can make it a reality.
Second, look at every impossibility through the power of prayer. Prayer changes everything. Look at the impossibility as an opportunity to pray and see what God's power can do through your prayer. Prayer has always been the beginning step of every miracle; miracles happen because of prayer, but without prayer, nothing will happen.
Third, look at every impossibility as a possibility if you will get to work. God only performs the miraculous through people who are willing to work to see the miraculous happen. The mindset you must acquire is that you believe God will come through, but until He does, you will work as hard as you can and go as far as you can until God performs the miraculous. God has always stepped in when the individual working has reached a point where nothing else can happen unless He steps in. Be willing to work until you can no longer work, and you will find God will make possible that place where the impossible wants to stop you.
