“In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.”
When I was in school, one of the ways the teachers motivated the students to work and study hard was to give privileges to those students who made a certain grade. You were given privileges depending on the grades you made. The better the grade, the more privileges you earned. The privileges became the motivating tool for the students to desire to work and study hard so they could get good grades.
When you became a believer, you were given privileges by God. The privileges that God gave should be a motivator to the lost to want to get saved. These privileges as a child of God actually make your walk with the LORD better if you use them. Privileges mean nothing if you do not use them. Privileges are wasted if they are never accessed. The privileges God gives the believer truly draws them closer to the LORD if they use them. In the verse above, three privileges are identified that God gives to the believer.
The first privilege is boldness. When the believer understands their position with Christ, they will be emboldened to do His works. One reason so many believers are timid and fearful is because they either don’t understand or they forgot their position with Christ. Let me remind you that when you got saved, you became a child of God. Not only did you become a child of God, but you also became a joint-heir with Jesus Christ. My friend, the privilege of being a child of God is that you have every privilege that Jesus Christ has with the Father. There is no reason to walk in fear as a believer when you have a right to be bold about your position with Christ. Your position with Christ should give you the boldness to face any obstacle life sends your way.
The second privilege is access to God. When you got saved, you obtained the privilege of being able to go to the throne of grace at any time you need God. One of the privileges of being a joint-heir with Christ is that you have access to the Father through Christ. It is a shame for the believer to have access to God through prayer and never enter into the prayer closet to petition Him for your needs. Do you understand that this access to God means that you have access to His power? Nothing would hinder the believer in their daily walk if they accessed God through prayer. It is in the prayer closet where the believer receives the strength and power to face the day’s opposition. You don’t have to run alone on your own power and try to face the daily giants that try to destroy you because you have access to God through His Son.
The third privilege is confidence. Confidence comes from faith in Jesus Christ. You will find that once you access God through prayer that your confidence in Him will grow to help you live a greater life of faith. One reason believers don’t have the confidence to live the life of faith is because they never access God through prayer. Prayer is the door that gives the believer confidence that their faith is not in vain. The only reason a believer lives in doubt and fear is because they never pray. When you see God in prayer, you will have the confidence that He will honor His Word.
Are you using the privileges of being a child of God? The success of your walk as a believer will be dependent upon how often you access these privileges. These privileges will help you to live a victorious life in Christ.
