Proof is in the Children

Matthew 11:19
“The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.”

The dialogue from the verse above started from John the Baptist sending his disciples while he was in prison to ask Jesus if He was the Christ. Jesus told John’s disciples to go back and tell him what they had seen. Jesus then turned the dialogue towards the multitudes who had minimized John and his ministry. Jesus condemned them because it didn’t matter what John said or how he said it, it was never good enough. He then said, “…wisdom is justified of her children.” In other words, the proof of John’s message being right was the results that came from his ministry.

Many years ago when I started my evangelistic ministry, the only thing I had to justify my ministry was what God did through the meetings. I was very young, I had no history to fall back upon, so the results that God blessed me with was what gave credibility to my ministry. The proof of my ministry was in the children. The proof of God working through me was the children, or results, of His working hand.

My friend, the proof is still in the children. Nobody can see the future, but we can see the results of the past. One thing that the children of the past make clear is that the old paths are the paths that everyone should walk. These new paths of compromise coming from modern day Balaam’s have yet to be proven. The new paths have no children of which they can boast. Yes, they may seem more exciting, but where are their children? The old paths have produced children who are pure and virgins. The children of the old paths are those who filled the thousands of pulpits for several generations. The children of the old paths produced exciting church services and built bus routes that have brought thousands of children to church which resulted in many of them getting saved.

Christian, the children of these new methods and philosophies have yet to be produced. You may be enamored with the dress-down ideas that make churches look more like social clubs, bar scenes or rock concerts, but their children have yet to be produced. You may be enamored with the rock music sound, or the sensual praise and worship teams that churches are so quickly embracing, but where are their children? Where are the children of the lifestyle evangelism methods that have no converts? Where are the children of this dead, non-confrontational, so-called preaching? Where are the children of no standards of holiness to which so many churches have gone? My friend, the proof is in the children.

If you have to choose between the old paths and these new ideas being produced today by non-separatists evangelicals, look no further than the children they produce. The children of the old paths have produced couples walking down the aisles as virgins. The children of the old paths have kept marriages from destruction. The children of the old paths keep reaching the lost through soul winning. The children of the old paths see young people surrendering to the ministry through exciting, passionate preaching. Yes, there are the detractors who criticize the old paths, but they are the children who left the old paths because of their taste for the world. The proof is always in the children. My advice to you is not to follow any path that has not produced children, for the children is the evidence that those paths are the right paths to walk.
