Ephesians 2:1
“And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;”

There are many things that happen when a person gets saved. When a person gets saved, their citizenship is changed from Hell to Heaven. When a person gets saved, their father changes from Satan to God. When a person gets saved, their position changes from guilty to justified. When a person gets saved, they turn from living the old life to living a new life in Christ Jesus. These are just a few things that happen when a person gets saved.

The verse above shows something else that happens when a person gets saved. God says, “And you hath he quickened…” The word “quickened” means, made alive; revived; stimulated; or reinvigorated. In other words, things that were dead to the believer before they got saved became alive after they got saved. There are four things that I want to point out that were quickened when you got saved.

First, you were quickened to righteousness. Before you got saved, righteous living was something you had to do to help “balance” the good and bad in your life in hopes of doing enough good to go to Heaven. When you got saved, you realized that you were not saved because of your righteousness, but because of Christ’s righteousness. When you got saved, a new desire was placed inside of you to do right because it became appealing to you. Before you got saved, righteous living had no appeal, but to the newly saved believer, righteousness had an appeal that it never had before. My friend, don’t squelch the desires of the quickened life to do right by going back to living the old life.

Second, you were quickened to a new vision. Before you got saved, you had no vision for a lost world, but when you got saved, you saw the world through different eyes. Let me ask you, whose eyes are you looking through? When looking at the world through the eyes of Christ, you will see a lost world. You will never see the lost harvest when looking through the eyes of the flesh because the eyes of the flesh only sees what feeds itself. If you will crucify your flesh daily, you will see a lost harvest around you that needs to be reached with the Gospel of Christ.

Third, you were quickened to new desires. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” It is always enjoyable talking to new believers who talk about how the things of the old life began to drop off because of no desire to partake in those sinful activities. My friend, your desires should have changed when you got saved. The person who has no desire to do right should reexamine their salvation. When you got saved, the Holy Spirit moved inside and created new desires, and convicts you of the fleshly desires you once used to fill.

Fourth, you were quickened to a new trust. Before you got saved, you trusted in the world, but after you got saved, you found that trusting the LORD and living by faith is where enjoyment of life is truly found. The newfound trust simply helped you to do things for Christ you never thought you could do.

Let me ask you; are you living the new life or the old life. God quickened you to live life away from sin. Let me encourage you not to revert to the old life that brought death, but live the new life that creates a Christlike appetite.
