1 Corinthians 9:24
“Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.”
God’s mindset is never to maintain, but His mindset it to obtain. A faith mindset never settles for the status quo or for maintaining what you already have, but a faith mindset is about obtaining new ground. Faith has a forward mindset that desires to conquer new ground, obtain the prize, or climbing to heights not yet obtained. You will never please the LORD without a faith mindset that is concerned with doing more for God instead of settling for mediocrity.
The verse above teaches that the Christian life is a race. The believer must realize that they are not only in a spiritual battle, but they are also in a race against Satan for the sake of who can reach the next soul before the other. Several things must be done daily if you are going to win the race for souls.
First, you must get in the race. The verse above says, “Know ye not that they which run in a race run…” You will never obtain the prize of winning a soul if you are sitting on the sidelines. It is hard to reach a soul when you never go soul winning or talk to anyone about the Gospel. It is impossible to be used to reach people with the Gospel when you are living in the world. If you are going to obtain the prize of reaching the lost, you must first get in the race.
Second, you can’t run the race to obtain by being concerned with others. Any person who has ever run track knows that you can’t look back or be concerned with others if you are going to win your race. A runner must stay in their lane because if they don’t, they will be disqualified from the race by getting out of their lane. You can’t be looking at others and worrying about what they are doing and run your race at the same time. Let me make this clear; you have enough to correct in yourself that you don’t have time to worry about another’s race. You cannot reach others for Christ when you are trying to critique everything that the pastor is doing or correct every wrong you perceive in other believers. If you are going to obtain the prize of reaching the lost, you must be concerned with caring for your own race.
Third, others are depending upon you in the race. I like to equate the Christian life as a relay race. The Book of Hebrews teaches that others are depending upon you to complete your course for their course to be complete. My friend, to obtain the prize of reaching the lost often takes a team effort. Paul admitted this when he said that Christ gives the increase. If every believer worked with each other, we would find that more souls could be reached and trained to get in the race themselves. The race to obtain souls is a team effort of every believer, and there can be no superstar mindsets if we are going to reach the souls of men successfully.
Fourth, you must run circumspectly if you are going to obtain the crown of reaching the lost. Satan is after you to fall in the race because of sin; therefore, you must run the race by walking with God in prayer and in the Scriptures if you are going to keep yourself from falling.
Fifth, you must run the race to obtain for the Gospel’s sake. The reason you run is for the sake of the Gospel reaching every person who is lost. Let me encourage you to stay involved in the race and don’t quit when you get weary of running. Souls are at stake, so run that ye may obtain more souls for Christ.
