“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
Everyone will come to a time in their life when they have come to the end of what they can do and they desperately need help to make it through their situation. God makes it clear that He wants to be your emergency number to run to when you are in need of help. He says in the verse above, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” This verse gives the believer several lessons of hope to which they can hold onto when they are in dire straights. Let me share with you these lessons.
First, God is only a call away. Too many times we pick up a phone to call a person who can only listen when you can drop to your knees and call on God to get the help you need. Let me remind you that when you are in need of health, God is only a call away. When you are in need of a cure, God is only a call away. When you are in need of peace, God is only a call away. When you are in need of wisdom, God is only a call away. When you are in need of freedom from some bondage, God is only a call away. When you are in need of victory over temptation and sin, God is only a call away. When you are in need of a companion, God is only a call away. When you are in need of fellowship, God is only a call away. My friend, I don’t know what your need is, but God is only a call away.
Second, God can hear you no matter where you may be. Verse 13 shows that God can hear you in the mountains and in the cities. In other words, there is no place where God cannot hear you. You may be in the most remote place in the world where there is no way to communicate with mankind, but you can always be assured that God is there and can hear you if you will just call on Him.
Third, God will answer your call. This may be the most encouraging thing mentioned in this verse. Have you ever called or texted someone who never returns the text or call? It can be frustrating trying to get ahold of someone and they don’t have the courtesy to respond. Well, I can assure you from the authority of God’s Word that He will answer your call. It may not be the answer you want, but you will get an answer. God’s answer to your call is never late, rarely early, but His answer is always on time. No matter what you are facing today, you can have the confidence if you will call on God that He will answer.
Fourth, God will always answer in power. The verse above says, “…and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” Whatever your problem is, it is not too big for God. God will hear and answer any prayer and is capable of answering it in ways that you can’t imagine. You may think that your prayer is impossible, but there is nothing impossible with God. You will never see the great and mighty things God can do through prayer until you call on Him in prayer. Stop worrying about what you need, and realize you have a God who is big enough and powerful enough to answer your request.
Let me ask you; what is your need right now? All you have to do is call on God. It should always be easier for the believer to call on God in prayer for a need than it is to call a friend on the phone to ask for prayer. There is nothing wrong with asking other believers to pray for you, but you can immediately call on God and get the answer you need.
