“And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.”
Korah had rebelled against the leadership of Moses and Aaron. Better yet, Korah had rebelled against God for setting Moses and Aaron as leaders. This rebellion that Korah led was not because of Moses and Aaron, but it was because Korah was upset with God for not giving him the leadership position. Because of this rebellion, God demanded a separation between Korah and his followers and Moses and Israel. When the separation happened, God opened up the earth and swallowed up Korah and all of his followers.
The day after this event, the people murmured against Moses and Aaron and accused them of killing all of these people. One would think that these people would be smart enough to realize that Moses and Aaron didn’t cause the earth to open up; only God has that power; this only goes to show that rebellious and hard-hearted people have no discernment. Because these people rebelled against God’s leaders, He sent a plague upon these people to destroy them. The only thing that saved these people was that Aaron ran and stood between the dead and the living to make an atonement for the people. Aaron was willing to put his life at risk for the sake of saving his nation.
Every generation needs an Aaron who will stand between the dead and the living. It is not enough to depend on the past leaders who stood for their generation to save your generation, but your generation needs someone to be selfless enough to see the need to stand between the dead and the living.
My friend, your nation will never be saved by people who are more interested in pleasure than they are with standing between the dead and the living. This verse does not say that Aaron sat between the dead and the living. It does not say that Aaron played between the dead and the living. This verse says that Aaron “stood between the dead and the living.” No nation has ever been saved by a pleasure-driven people who are more interested in having fun than they are with saving their nation. No nation has ever been saved by people who are so self-righteous that they are willing to destroy the leaders of the previous generation so that they can justify their worldliness and carelessness for the next generation. Any person who has ever saved their nation had to stand between the dead and the living.
Moreover, it takes an individual who is willing to sacrifice everything to save their nation. When Aaron stood between the dead and the living, he was putting his life at risk that he would die in the plague. Nobody has saved a generation by playing it safe. The church in the Book of Acts turned a world upside down for Christ by sacrificing everything, including their lives for the sake of getting the Gospel to the world. The three Hebrew children risked their lives to be sure that someone stood between the dead and the living to show them that God is still alive. David stood and put his life at risk to save his nation from the hand of Goliath. My friend, it takes total sacrifice to stand between the dead and the living. It will take your willingness to risk your safety and life for the sake of reaching another generation.
Let me ask you, will you be an Aaron and stand between the dead and the living? Your life will not account for much unless you are willing to risk everything to stand between the dead and the living for the next generation.
