“And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed.”
One of the greatest statements that could be said about an individual or a people is found in this statement that God said about Israel, “…for they are blessed.” For anyone to notice that an individual or a group of people are blessed is certainly worth noting, but it is an absolute truth when God says they are blessed.
However, just as easy as it is to say that someone is blessed, it can also be said that someone is cursed. God’s blessings on one’s life are not a right but is a privilege and a reward because they did right. Keeping that blessing on your life is what you must desire. The blessing can turn into a curse if you don’t continue doing what made you blessed. God would not allow Balaam to curse Israel because they were blessed, but in the very next chapter, they brought a curse on their lives because they mingled with the people who were against God. Staying blessed is as important as getting blessed.
I don’t know about you, but I want God’s blessings on my life and on my church continuously. Wouldn’t it be great if the world could see believers and churches that are blessed? There needs to be in every city an individual and a church whom God is blessing. This world sees enough believers who are complaining about everything, and the world sees enough churches that are just surviving, but what the world needs to see is God’s blessings on individuals and churches and His blessings staying on them. Let me share some thoughts with you about staying blessed.
You stay blessed by doing right. Doing right is what brought God’s blessings on you, and doing right is what will keep God’s blessings on you. The reason God said that Israel was blessed was because Israel was doing right. The easiest way to secure God’s blessings on your life and to keep those blessings is to do right and continue doing right once the blessings come. Don’t let the initial blessings of God cause you to stop doing right. God’s blessings came because you did right, and they will continue if you continue doing right.
The easiest way to stay blessed as an individual is to keep serving God and doing right. One of the greatest battles you will fight is to continue doing right once God’s blessings start falling on your life. You must guard against the mentality that says you are always going to be blessed. One mistake many believers make is that they acquire a mindset that thinks God’s blessings will always be on their life no matter what they do. There have been many believers who thought that God would overlook their sin because of His blessings on their life only to find out that His blessings were quenched because of their sin. You must remember that your life is reaping today’s blessings because of yesterday’s obedience, and tomorrow’s blessings will be determined by whether you obey God today. If you want to stay blessed, keep doing today what you did yesterday to acquire God’s blessings on your life.
Moreover, the church that wants to be blessed needs to do what it takes to be blessed. God doesn’t need to bless a church that is not reaching the lost. Many churches have stopped growing and lost God’s blessings because they stopped doing what brought His blessings. The church that wants to keep God’s blessings MUST never stop reaching the lost, for that is what brings His blessings on the church.
