Straight Forward

Ezekiel 10:22 “And the likeness of their faces was the same faces which I saw by the river of Chebar, their appearances and themselves: they went every one straight forward.”

Three times in the book of Ezekiel, God uses the phrase “straight forward.” Apparently, going straight forward in life is important to God for Him to reemphasize this phrase. God could have easily said that they went forward, but He did not just say going forward was enough. He could have said that they went straight, but you can go straight in any direction. God wanted the believer to understand that His will is to go straight forward. Let me give you a few observations about the importance of going straight forward.

First, direction is important. If direction were not important, God would have said that these went straight forward. Your direction in life is one of the most important things that will determine where you will end up in life. Direction is often more important than position because direction will dictate future position. Your position may not be where it ought to be at the moment, but if your direction is right, you will be in the right position in the future. On the other hand, your position may be correct right now, but if your direction is wrong, you will soon be in the wrong position. You show me your direction in life, and I will show you where you will be in the future. If you focused more on keeping your direction right, you wouldn’t have to worry about keeping your position right. Direction does dictate position, not today’s position, but tomorrow’s position.

Second, forward is the direction that God wants you to go. Always understand that forward is the only direction that pleases the LORD. To stay stagnant and not move is a direction, and that is the direction which leads to you getting further from the LORD. God is always going forward; therefore, any decision that causes you to go in any direction other than forward is not a direction that God would want you to go. When you are faced with a decision, all you have to ask to find out the right answer is if the decision will take you forward. The forward direction is a faith direction, and it is a direction that pleases the LORD. If you are not going forward, you are not living by faith. The forward direction is always a direction of the unknown; thus, it is a direction of faith.

Third, forward is a momentum that God wants you to keep. Getting momentum in life is always hard, but once you get the momentum going forward, you must be careful not to stop the momentum because it is twice as hard to get it going again when you stop the momentum. I understand that you get tired at times, but it is easier to keep the momentum going forward than it is to get the momentum going again. Be careful that you don't slow down in the Christian walk because that stops the forward momentum that God wants you to have.

Fourth, straight forward is focus and a cause. My friend, going straight without being sidetracked by unimportant things will only be accomplished by focus, purpose, and a cause. The reason you must go straight is because where you are trying to get cannot afford one minute away from your direction. Please understand that when you veer off from straight forward that you are no longer going forward. Stay focused on what God wants you to do in reaching the lost, and when the unimportant tries to say it is important, don't listen, but keep going straight forward so you can reach the lost for Christ.
