Stuck
Psalm 119:31
“I have stuck unto thy testimonies: O LORD, put me not to shame.”
Have you ever been stuck on something and been told to let it go? The psalmist said, “I have stuck unto thy testimonies…” He was saying that he could not let go of God’s Word because it was his security blanket. He was saying that God’s Word was the only security he had as he faced life’s problems. Instead of getting stuck to something that could bring heartache, he chose to be stuck on God’s Word and let it be the thing that he would live and die by.
Believers need to have the same tenacity of the psalmist when it comes to God’s Word. Too many get stuck in life to personalities or things that only brings questionable living, but God’s Word is the one security that never brings shame to one’s life. Let me share several times when you should stick to God’s Word.
First, when hardships come, stick to the Word of God. God’s Word has never failed to bring people through hard times. When hardships cause instability, God’s Word brings stability to the believer. When those hardships of life come, you need to cling to God’s Word and what it tells you to do. The advice of God’s Word is priceless in those times of hardships.
Second, when facing questions, stick to the Word of God. When people propose questions about God’s Word, always stick to it. The only reason someone questions God’s Word is because they are trying to bring doubt to your life. Never allow the heathen’s questioning cause you to question or doubt the promises of God. Always remember that God’s Word always has the answers to every question in life. You may not know the answer yet, but if you stick to God’s Word and what you do know, you will find that God will show you the answers to your situation.
Third, when trying to change yourself, stick to the Word of God. Many people run to addiction programs to try and change their ways, but only God’s Word can cleanse the believer of every thing that would cause you to want to go back to the sin that easily besets you. The greatest habit-changing remedy in life is God’s Word. Sin will flee when you stick to God’s Word. If a person truly wants to change their ways, all they have to do is cling to the Word of God and they will find that sin’s temptation will no longer tempt them.
Fourth, when trying to determine God’s will for your life, stick to the Word of God. Nothing shines the light on God’s will for your life more clearly than the Word of God. When you are trying to determine what God wants you to do, cling to the Word of God by reading it in with a prayerful spirit. God’s Word always reveals God’s mind to the believer who is truly desirous to know what He wants them to do.
Always remember that the answer to everything in life is God’s Word. Stick to it by reading it daily. Stick to it by memorizing its words. Stick to it by making it your chief joy. Stick to it by always referring to it for every situation you face. Stick to it; don’t let anything come between you and God’s Word. You will never be embarrassed or ashamed if you just stick to God’s Word. Every person who has ever made God’s Word their bearing point in life has always been pleased to where it brought them. You will never fail to find the right answers for life if you just stick to God’s Word.
