“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”
If there is one great desire that every believer should have it should be to be successful in their Christian walk. There are many things you can be successful at, but there is only one thing where you can be successful that brings eternal joy and fulfillment without regrets. Many have been successful in making money only to find out that money doesn’t give joy. Many have been successful in business adventures only to find out that it doesn’t give fulfillment in life. There are many areas in life where you can be successful, but only one area brings joy and satisfaction and that is being successful in your Christian walk.
The verse above is the final charge of Moses to Joshua before he went to Heaven. Joshua probably knew everything that Moses was about to say to him because he followed and studied Moses for many years. Still, Moses knew that Joshua needed to be reminded of what it takes to be successful in conquering the Promised Land. The charge that Moses gave to Joshua shows the keys to being successful in your Christian walk. Let me share these keys with you.
First, you must be strong to be successful in the Christian walk. It takes strength to fight sin. You will never be successful in overcoming sin if you are a weak Christian. The believer gets their strength by reading God’s Word and praying. You will fail to overcome sin if you are not strong in God’s Word. Moreover, it takes strength to continue in hard times in the Christian walk. There are going to be times when you will get weary with serving the LORD, but you must have an inner strength to continue if you are going to succeed in your walk with Christ.
Second, it takes courage to be successful in the Christian walk. You must be courageous to fight the spiritual warfare; you must be courageous to attempt great things for God. Nobody has ever done anything great for God without the courage to attempt something great for God that is beyond their capabilities. You are going to have to have the courage to go forward to doing great things for God when every part of your being tells you to stay in the land of comfort.
Third, it takes faith to be successful in the Christian walk. Faith is the noise-canceling headphone that silences the noises of fear. Faith forces you to listen to God’s promises instead of fear’s voice of retreat. You will never step out and attempt great things for God if you don’t act on faith. The only difference between those who do great things for God and those who don’t is that those who do great things for God listen to the voice of faith, whereas those who don’t do great things for God listen to the noise of fear. The success of your Christian walk is determined by choosing to listen to the faith voice of God over the noise of fear.
Fourth, it takes a focus on God that He is with you every step of the way. God promises that He will never forsake you, and you must acknowledge that promise when you feel you are all alone in your walk with Christ. There are going to be times when you are the only one standing, but you are never alone because Christ is always with you. If you are going to continue to stand for right and do right, you must keep your focus on Christ because that is the only thing that will cause you to continue when you feel you are alone.
