“Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.”
Jesus had heard that Lazarus was sick, and yet He chose not to come and see what He could do to heal him. Instead, Jesus chose to wait until Lazarus had not only died, but waited until several days after his death. When Jesus arrived, both Mary and Martha said to Him, “Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.” They knew that the only reason their brother died was because Jesus did not come.
However, there is another component to this story that can help you in your daily life. When Jesus came, He wanted to go to the place where Lazarus had been buried. When He arrived at Lazarus’ burying place, He commanded that the stone be rolled away. I believe Martha knew that Jesus was about to do something, but she also understood that her brother had been dead for four days and that his body had started to decompose. When Jesus came to the place where Lazarus was buried He said, “Take ye away the stone.” In other words, the only thing standing between Jesus performing the miraculous was that stone. Though the stone itself was not going to stop the power of Jesus, it was what Martha and those who heard Jesus command the stone to be rolled away did with His command to roll it away. Had they not had the faith to roll that stone away, Lazarus would have never been raised from the dead.
My friend, what is the stone in your life that keeps God from doing great works in your life. Is that stone worldly living? Would you rather live in the world than see God do something miraculous through your life? Many people miss God doing the miraculous because they would rather play in the world than to serve God by faith. You cannot and will not see God do anything great through your life as long as you live for the things of this world.
What is the stone in your life? Is that stone unbelief? Do you not believe that God can do something through your life? Doubt has kept many people from performing the works of faith that roll away the stone that stands between them and God’s power. If you don’t believe that God will do something miraculous, you certainly won’t do any work that needs God’s miraculous hand to work. Belief is what moves you to step out and see what God can do through your life.
Let me ask you, what is the stone in your life? Is that stone the mindset that it is impossible? God is the God of the impossible. It doesn’t matter if the doctor says you can’t be healed; God is capable of healing in spite of the doctor’s ruling. It doesn’t matter if it seems financially impossible to do something; God has the resources to supply your needs. Whatever the impossible is in your life, God has the capability to do a great work if you will not let the impossible become the obstacle that stops you.
What is the stone in your life? Is that stone a lack of work? God doesn’t need to perform the miraculous if you are not doing the work that needs the miraculous. Miracles never come without effort on your part. God uses the weakness of man’s abilities to show His power through them. The miraculous happens when a weak man yokes up with an omnipotent God for God to multiply the work of the weak man. My friend, God is capable to do the miraculous. Don’t let your stone keep Him from doing what He wants to do.
