“And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.”
One of the hardest things to overcome is the accusations of those who want to destroy you; this is why Satan uses accusation to try to destroy the work of God. Satan knows that he can hurl accusations at God’s people and destroy their testimony because many people are quick to believe accusations over facts. Satan doesn’t care if the accusations are false because he is a liar. His whole purpose is to use accusation to bring question to the LORD’s work so that people won’t get saved. One then wonders; how do you overcome accusations? The answer is found in verse 11 when three actions must be taken by those who are accused.
First, you overcome accusation by the “blood of the Lamb.” In other words, you will never overcome accusation in your own strength. You must rely on God to help you overcome accusation. Many of those who have been accused take matters into their own hands to defend themselves, which is the natural human response to do; however, you cannot overcome accusation in your own power, but you overcome them by the power of the blood of Christ. I would encourage you to claim Christ’s work of Calvary on your situation. Claim the power of Christ’s saving blood to help you overcome the accusations that have come your way.
Second, you overcome accusation with your testimony. Your testimony is not what you say about yourself, but what others say about you. Your testimony is defined by how you have lived your life in the past, and how others use the model of how you lived to define who you are. If you have carried yourself properly in the past, your testimony will make accusations appear as untruthful. This is why it is important for you to live right now because you never know when someone will become an accuser. You should live your life in such a manner that nobody would ever believe the accusations of someone trying to destroy you.
Third, you overcome accusation by giving everything you have to serve the LORD. In other words, have no reserves when it comes to serving the LORD. Give all of your energy when you serve the LORD. Your efforts in serving the LORD will go a long ways in defending you when accusation comes. The reason is because if it is your character to serve God without reserve, you won’t stop serving the LORD when accusation comes; you will keep on going in spite of the accusation.
With this in mind, let me give you some advice to follow. First, don’t be guilty of doing the work of Satan by accusing the brethren. It is never the work of God to accuse brethren of doing wrong. Jesus said in John 5:45, “Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.” Jesus was saying that the law will prove the guilt of the guilty. Don’t take matters into your own hands and try to destroy another. When you take it upon yourself to accuse a brother in Christ, you are doing the work of Satan. You should never want to be the tool Satan uses to accuse the brethren; instead, be the tool of God to reach the lost.
Finally, don’t quit when accusation comes. Time is on your side. Keep doing right and time, and your testimony will vindicate you against the accusations.
