The Answer to Restoration
“Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went.”
Israel found themselves in a position where many Christians often find themselves. Israel had done wrong, and their only hope of God’s blessings was God’s mercy. In the verse above, God shows the answer as to why He would take Israel back after all their wickedness. He said that He would take them back “for mine holy name’s sake.” God wanted to show the heathen nations that He was powerful enough to take a sinful nation and use them again.
Christian, this should bring great encouragement to your heart. Have you ever done something that you felt so dirty from sin’s touch that you thought God would never do anything with you again? My friend, the answer to your restoration is found in the statement, “…for mine holy name’s sake.” The one prayer you can pray to God to help for your restoration is that He would do it for His holy name’s sake. There are six things you should ask God to help you with for His holy name’s sake so that you can be restored.
First, ask God to help bring you out of sin for His holy name’s sake. Verse 24 shows that God would take Israel from among the heathen for His holy name’s sake. You will never have the power to overcome sin; therefore, you must ask God to help you come out of your sin for His holy name’s sake.
Second, ask God to cleanse your heart for His holy name’s sake. God says in verse 25, “Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean…” You can put the sin away that is besetting you, but you still have to clean your heart from its effects. If you are going to have total victory over sin, you will need God’s cleansing for His holy name’s sake.
Third, ask God to give you new desires for His holy name’s sake. In verse 26, God says that He would give them a “new heart.” The heart is the source of desires. If you want to be restored from sin, you will need your desires changed from a desire for sin to a desire to do right. Only God can change the desires of your heart. Your daily prayer should be that God would give you new desires for His holy name’s sake.
Fourth, ask God to give you a spirit of revival for His holy name’s sake. Sin has a way of deflating your spirit, but only God can give you a “new spirit” of confidence that Christ can still use you. If sin has destroyed your spirit, ask God to give you a new spirit of revival for His holy name’s sake.
Fifth, ask God to remove your indifference towards sin for His holy name’s sake. Sin has a way of making your heart as hard as stone towards what you are doing. You need God to remove the “stony heart” towards sin so that it bothers you again. If you want to be restored from sin, you must ask God to remove your indifference towards sin for His holy name’s sake.
Sixth, ask God to give you His Holy Spirit’s power for His holy name’s sake. The only way you will have total victory over sin is through the power of the Holy Spirit. Christian, you can have victory over sin, but only through the power of the Holy Spirit. When you come to the point that you realize it’s about God’s holy name, it is then that you will find victory over sin.
