The Benefits of Preparation
2 Chronicles 27:6
“So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the LORD his God.”
One of the greatest statements that can be made about a person is that they prepared their ways before the LORD. One reason people are unstable is because they live for the moment instead of acting on purpose which can only be done if you are prepared. It is often said that the luckiest people in the world are those who are prepared. Luck has nothing to do with a prepared person; rather, they are simply ready for the moment that God has for them when it comes.
Jotham was mighty, not because of his heritage, but because of his preparation. There were many other kings who never became as mighty as Jotham and the reason why is because they were not as prepared as he was for life. If you are going to live life to its fullest, and if you are going to realize all of God’s blessings that He has for you, you are going to have to learn to be prepared for life. There are several benefits to living a prepared life. Let me show you five of these benefits.
First, preparation gives you mental tranquility. Preparation gives you the peace of mind that you are ready to face whatever life brings your way. If you find yourself constantly worrying about life, it is probably because you are not prepared for life. You certainly can’t plan for everything that life will throw at you, but you can find your mind can rest more easily if you learn to prepare.
Second, preparation gives you boldness. You will find that those who are prepared for what they do are very confident people. The reason they are bold and act in confidence is because they know they are ready for what is about ready to happen. Preparation always helps you to face life boldly; whereas, unpreparedness always leaves a person living in chaos and panic.
Third, preparation gives you time to deal with the unexpected. One of the greatest things about being prepared is that you can deal with the unexpected that you didn’t know would come. When a person is unprepared, they not only are trying to deal with what they knew they had to do, but they are also dealing with unexpected situations. Unprepared people live life with a sense of being overwhelmed; whereas, the prepared people live their lives with a sense of tranquility and control seeming to be able to handle greater tasks.
Fourth, preparation pleases the LORD. The reason God shows that Jotham prepared his ways before the LORD is because it pleases the LORD to be prepared. The character of God is that He is prepared. God not only lives in the present, but He also already knows your future. The more you prepare, the more you will find yourself conforming into the image of God. It is hard to live a life like God when you are unprepared.
Fifth, preparation makes you mighty. The greatest lives and the greatest works were lived and built because someone was prepared. God can do greater works if you are prepared than He can through your lack of preparation. It would be sad that God couldn’t do everything He wanted to do through your life because of your lack of preparation. You would be wise to be a person of preparation if you want to experience all of what God wants to do through your life.
