“And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:”
God told Abram, “I will make thee a great nation…” He continued to say, “…I will bless thee…” God finished by saying, “…and thou shalt be a blessing:” You will notice that all of these statements are in the future tense. In other words, these promises God gave Abram are contingent upon some action. What is this action that Abram had to take for these blessings to come? The action he had to take was to step out by faith and leave his country, kindred, family and homeland to go to a nation he had never seen. It was the action of faith that Abram had to take for these contingencies to become reality.
The destination of faith is not your personal promotion, but the destination of faith is to be blessed so that you can be a blessing to others. The whole purpose of Abram stepping out by faith was so that he could be a blessing. God gives His blessings to believers so that they can use those blessings to help others. God never gives you a blessing so that you can be selfish with it and only use it for yourself; rather, He gives it to you so that you can help others. Let me share with you several observations about the blessings of faith.
First, faith and selfishness cannot act together. If Abram had acted in selfishness, he would not have had the faith to step out in obedience to God. If you do something for a selfish motive, you will always find that your faith will wane and unbelief will reign. The selfish believer never lives by faith because they are walking by sight. You will never enjoy the blessings of faith until you remove selfishness from your life and start living the selfless life.
Second, faith always sets you apart from the rest. God told Abram that if he stepped out by faith and left his homeland that He would make of him a great nation. Very few people live by faith, but that is what sets apart the believer who chooses to live by faith. Too many believers look for promotion and position without faith, but God only promotes and gives position to the believer who acts by faith and steps out.
Third, you will never realize the great blessings of God without living the life of faith. Some of the greatest stories about believers from the past are the stories of those who stepped out by faith. If you were to study all the great stories you heard about God blessing an individual, you will always find that they were blessed because they stepped out by faith. You will never experience God’s greatest blessings until you step out by faith. The stories of faith will seem as fairy tales as long as you live the comfortable Christian life in unbelief.
Fourth, you will never be a blessing to others until you choose to live by faith. The great men of God from the past were a blessing to thousands of people because they stepped out by faith. You will never be able to be a blessing to others until you step out by faith. The believer who lives by faith desires God’s blessings so they can help those they lead. The moment you stop living by faith is when God turns off the facet of blessings which keeps you from being a blessing to others.
My friend, you will never be a blessing to others until you live by faith. Stop letting unbelief rule your life and step out from your comfort zone into God’s faith zone so you can be the blessings to others that God intends for you to be.
