“In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
Heaven is one of the things that makes the home-going of a loved one a little easier to take. There is no doubt that everyone who reads this devotional has someone they love who is now in Heaven. God wanted you to know that you don’t need to be troubled about them being gone because Heaven should be the balm that soothes the loneliness of your heart. As I look at the verse above, four things should comfort you about Heaven.
First, Heaven is a real place. Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you.” If Jesus is going to a place, that place has to be real. My friend, Heaven is more than just someone’s imagination; it is a real place. It is a place that has streets and walls. It is a place where people dwell in mansions. It is a place where people go to when they die. Yes, everyone who has accepted Christ and has died is now in that place called Heaven. You may ask me how I know it’s real. I know it’s real because Jesus said it is. Titus 1:2 reminds us, “In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;” If God said that Heaven is real, He is not lying about it because He cannot lie. It’s as real as the house in which you live. It’s as real as the sidewalks on which you walk. It’s as real as the world in which you live. Don’t ever doubt it; Heaven is a real place!
Second, Heaven is a prepared place. Jesus said in the verse above, “…I go to prepare a place for you.” Right now while you are reading this devotional, Heaven is being prepared for you. I want you to realize that when your loved one went to Heaven, they went to a place specialized just for them. Jesus built a mansion just for them. One of the things that should bring comfort to your heart is that Jesus has you in mind as He builds Heaven. Right now, there is construction on your mansion as He prepares for you to come home. When your loved went home to be with the LORD, they went to a place that was uniquely prepared for them. Your loved one could not be in a better place because nobody can provide for them like God can.
Third, Heaven is the place where God dwells. Notice the verse above says, “In my Father’s house are many mansions…” Jesus said, “I go…” The thing that makes Heaven so special is not the specialized mansions or the golden streets. The things that makes Heaven so special is not the walls of jasper or the fact that there is no night. The thing that makes Heaven so special is that it is the place where God Himself dwells. In other words, your loved one who went home to Heaven is in the very presence of God. What better presence could they be in than in His presence?
Fourth, Heaven is a reunion place. Jesus said in verse 3, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” One day when your time on this Earth ends, you will be reunited with God. Not only will you be reunited with God, but you will also be reunited with every loved one who has already gone to Heaven. What a wonderful day that is going to be when you are reunited with those you love. I don’t know who you are missing, but Heaven should bring joy and comfort to your soul that your saved loved ones who passed away have gone to Heaven, but it should also bring comfort that you will get to see them again one day. Thank God for Heaven!
