The Determination of God

post-title

Isaiah 43:19 “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”

Two times in Isaiah 43, God makes the promise that He will make a way. God says in verse 16, “Thus saith the LORD, which maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters;” Again, God says in the verse above, “I will even make a way in the wilderness.” God was reminding Israel that no matter what they faced, He was their Saviour from their situation in life. God reminds them of two great instances in their history where He made a way despite the odds that were against them.

God first reminds them of when they faced the great Red Sea. It seemed as though they were going to be destroyed by Pharaoh’s army. Before them was the Red Sea that was a border from them, and behind them was the Egyptian army pursuing them. They didn't have the strength to defeat this great army. They were too large to outrun the troops coming towards them. What were they to do? God made a way through the Red Sea and delivered them despite the odds against them.

God then reminds them of how He delivered them through the wilderness. For forty years they wandered in the wilderness. When it seemed like there was no food to eat, God provided a way with manna from Heaven. When there was no water to drink, God provided water from a rock. When there was no way for shoes and clothing to be produced, God made their shoes to grow with their feet for forty years and kept their clothes from wearing out. God made a way for Israel through that wilderness despite the odds that were against them.

The same God who was determined to make a way for Israel can make a way for you despite the odds that are against you. If I had to put my trust on the odds against me or the God who is for me, I will trust the God who is for me for He has never failed. Let me give you a couple of reminders about God’s determination.

First, God’s determination has never failed in the past, and it won’t fail today. You have history on your side when it comes to God coming through. If God can make a way through the walls of Jericho, He can make a way for you. If God can make a way through the great armies against Israel, He can make a way through the army of trials you face today. God’s past determination to help you through whatever you face is all the credentials you need to trust Him through whatever you face.

Second, God’s determination not to fail should give you comfort that you will be okay. My friend, if God were shaken by what you face today, and He is not shaken, He would not let you know because He is determined to make a way. God will find a way through any problem you face, so it is up to you to keep going.

Now, if God is determined enough to make a way through your trials, you need to be determined to find that way. Stop giving up so easily. Stop giving in to your hardships. When you give up, you are not giving God the time to make the way for you. When you quit, you are robbing God of the opportunity to show His power to the world by making a way for you. Let me encourage you to be as determined as God is with your situation to make a way despite the odds against you.
