The Door

John 10:7
“Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.”

A door either keeps you on the outside, or it is the portal by which you enter in. The determination as to what the door is to you is not only determined by the person who owns the door, but it is also determined by what the person on the outside does with an open door. If the person on the inside opens the door, the person on the outside has a choice as to whether to enter or not to enter.

Jesus said, “I am the door of the sheep.” Jesus is the door to every individual to be able to enter and enjoy the privileges behind the door. In John 10, there are several things to which Jesus is a door of opportunity. Let me share with you these areas where you have a choice to enter through the door of Jesus Christ and enjoy the benefits He gives.

First, Jesus is the door to salvation. Verse 9 says, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved…” There is no other way to get saved other than through Jesus Christ. Religion and good works are also a door, but they are the door to eternal damnation. My friend, you have one of two doors to enter into; one door leads to eternal life in Heaven, and the other leads to eternal damnation in Hell. Jesus is your only hope of going to Heaven. You must personally enter that door because nobody can bring you through it. It is a personal decision and a definite time when you choose to go through Jesus Christ to be saved. Let me ask you; when was it and where were you when you accepted Jesus’ offer to be saved? The door of salvation is an open door to all who believe on Jesus Christ to receive the payment of their sins.

Second, Jesus is the door to fellowship. Verse 9 continues to say, “…and shall go in and out…” The one person who will never fail to spend time with you is Jesus Christ. If you are lonely and in need of fellowship, Jesus Christ has opened the door for you to enjoy eternal fellowship with Him.

Third, Jesus is the door to growth. Verse 9 concludes by saying, “…and find pasture.” The answer for spiritual growth is always found by spending time with Jesus Christ. Too many believers look to artificial ways to grow, but you will never grow until you feed on the Word of God. Personal growth is only found by feeding on the nourishment of the Scriptures. The question for the believer is this; are you spiritually malnourished because you never spend time in the pasture of God’s Word? There is no reason any believer should not find the nourishment they need to grow as a believer.

Fourth, Jesus is the door to abundant life. Jesus said in verse 10, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” No person will ever find fulfillment in life without Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the answer to fill the void any person is looking for to find fulfillment in life. My friend, the world’s promise of fulfillment always leaves you empty, but Jesus always fills the void in which the world leaves. If you want to enjoy life to its fullest, you must go through the door to abundant life, and that door is through Jesus Christ.

Let me ask you, are you standing without the open door Jesus has opened because you are still listening to the voices of the world? Stop letting the world and its influences keep you from enjoying the benefits of going through the door Jesus has opened for you. You will never regret the moment you entered any door that Jesus has opened.
