The Finger of God

Exodus 8:19
“Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.”

Satan always has counterfeits that he uses to deceive people into believing that God is not real. These counterfeits may be able to do some mighty works, but they are always limited in their ability to challenge God. They may be able to do amazing things, but at the end of the day, they will pale in comparison to God’s mighty hand.

Pharaoh had his counterfeits who challenged Moses as he requested for Israel to go and worship in the wilderness. The verse above is the third challenge between Pharaoh’s magicians and Moses’ God. They failed when they tried to match what God did through Moses in this third challenge.

The response of the magicians to Pharaoh is what should be encouraging to the believer. They said, “This is the finger of God…” In other words, they were saying that God is able to do much more than what they had just seen. A person’s finger is not really that strong. Certainly, your finger can do some work, but it cannot lift the heavy things without the arms. The arms have much more strength than the finger will ever have. To say that the finger of God could do more than all the might that the world’s magicians had is to show the power that God has to care for your problems in life.

My friend, God is powerful enough to handle your problems. If God’s finger can shut down a nation, imagine how powerful God is compared to your problems. It doesn’t matter how big your problems are; God has the strength and power to be able to help you through those problems.

Moreover, God is powerful enough to overcome any problem that cosmos may bring. When I say “cosmos,” I am talking about anything the world may cause. We can sometimes get our eyes on the world and what they are doing to Christianity, and we become discouraged and filled with fear and worry as to our ability to serve the LORD. My friend, the finger of God is well able to overcome the powers of cosmos. Remember, when Pharaoh didn’t respond properly to the finger of God is when he faced the powerful arm of God at the Red Sea. This generation has yet to see what the powerful arm of God can do if they don’t submit to Him. You don’t need to fear what cosmos is doing because God is very capable of taking cosmos down.

Let this thought about the finger of God remind you of a couple of things. First, God is not worried about the ability to handle your problems. Whatever problems that you face today are, they are not too big for God. You may be sweating as you walk through your problems, but God knows He is capable of handling and solving your problems.

Second, God is able to show Himself strong through your situations. Always remember that God reveals His hand upon you through your adversities. God has always shown His power through man’s adversity, and He has always worked through man in their times of calamity. If you are facing troublesome times, you must remember that those troublesome times are God’s canvas to show His mighty power through you. Let me encourage you not to despair; if the finger of God can stop Pharaoh, His arm can deliver you from your situation.
