The Great Revealer of Right
“And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark. But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.”
Like Barnabas, we often don’t have the whole story for others to see that we are right. At the time when Barnabas separated from Paul, it had to seem to him as though he had been found guilty and condemned even though he was right. You never hear about Barnabas and what the LORD was doing in his ministry after this episode with the Apostle Paul. Barnabas, at this point in his ministry, could have become a bitter individual had he not realized that the great revealer of right would vindicate his action in taking John Mark. It wasn’t until 2 Timothy 4:11 that Barnabas is vindicated. Paul said in this verse, “…Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.”
Time is the great revealer of right. It took time for everyone to see that Barnabas was right in wanting to take John Mark even though at the moment he could have gotten bitter about the sharp divide and others not using him as before.
In the Christian life, you will need the great revealer of right to keep you going in times of misunderstandings. There are going to be times when you are right and others will turn against you because of someone’s lies about a situation. The only thing you will have at that moment to rely on to vindicate you is time. As unfair as it may be, you are going to have to wait for the great revealer of right to do her work. Let me give you a couple of thoughts that will help you as you wait on the great revealer of right.
First, don’t dwell on the battle. The quickest way to become bitter is to allow yourself to think about how you have been wronged when you know you did right. The Devil will constantly bring things to your attention at the right moment to discourage you and make you bitter. My friend, divorce yourself from any information that reminds you of the battle so you can continue doing right.
Second, realize that you are going to lose friends of a lifetime. One of the hardest things you will discover is that those you once worked with you in the ministry will turn against you. When friends and ministries turn against you, don’t hold it against them because they don’t know the whole story. They will find out about who is right when the great revealer of time does her work.
Third, keep helping people. The only way you are going to make it through the times when you are portrayed as the bad person is to continue helping people. There are always people you can help who don’t know anything about your battles. If Barnabas had quit helping others, John Mark wouldn’t have been profitable to Paul later in his life. You may not be able to get how you were wronged out of your mind, but helping others has a way of softening the hurt that you are experiencing.
Fourth, be patient, the great revealer of time always reveals who is right. My friend, time is on your side, and if you continue doing right, everyone will see who was right. Don’t burn bridges with people who attack you; you will find them coming back to you when time shows you were right. Christian, don’t let other’s wrongs against you make you bitter; the great revealer of right will vindicate you if you continue doing right.
