The Hand of the Lord

post-title

Acts 13:11 “And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.”

The hand of the Lord can easily be equated to the power of electricity. Electricity used carelessly can always hurt the one who is working with it. Electricity that is not being used is being wasted. However, electricity that is used wisely can use the power it has to light up a house or any building. It all depends on how electricity is used that determines what it does for the individual.

Likewise, the hand of the Lord upon someone's life has different effects dependent upon why the Lord’s hand is upon them. In the verse above, the hand of the Lord was upon Elymas the sorcerer. In the book of Ezra, the hand of the Lord was upon Ezra. Throughout the Scriptures, there were some believers that did not have a hand of the Lord upon them. As I study the Scriptures, there are three results and purposes of the hand of the Lord upon one's life.

The first life I want to talk about is the hand of the Lord not being on someone's life. When God’s hand is not on the believer’s life, the believer is wasting the power of God that lives within them. Sadly many believers have the power within them to do great things for God, but just like electricity that is not being used, the power within that believer is being wasted. Just because you are not doing bad things does not mean that you will enjoy the hand of the Lord upon you. You are wasting the potential inside of you by not getting the hand of the Lord upon your life by doing nothing for God.

The second life I want to talk about is the hand of the Lord upon someone's life because of judgment. In the verse above, the hand of the Lord was upon Elymas, not for good, but because God was judging him. There are many believers who have abused the power that lives within them to their own detriment. You can live a life of sin and not think that God won't do something about it, but you cannot grieve the Holy Spirit and not suffer the consequences of it. The believer cannot live a life of sin and not grieve the Holy Spirit of God. There are many things you can do against God, but God the Father never takes kindly to anyone abusing His Holy Spirit.

The third life I want to talk about is the hand of the Lord upon someone's life because He is using them. The hand of the Lord was upon Ezra, and it resulted in him rebuilding the temple. The hand of the Lord was upon David, and it resulted in a life of victory. The hand of the Lord was upon the apostles, and it resulted in them turning the world upside down for Christ. The result of having the hand of the Lord upon your life because God is using you always results in his blessings and a life that makes a great impact while on this earth.

My friend, the hand of the Lord is positioned on your life in one of these three areas. I would hate to think that I am wasting the power of the hand of the Lord upon my life because I am either living in sin or not doing anything that requires his hand upon me. Don't waste the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within you. If you will get the hand of the Lord upon your life, you will find that your life will impact many for good. I would much rather have the hand of the Lord upon my life for good to influence others for a good than to live a life of pleasure and never experience the joy of God's power working through me.
