“For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.”
The hope for Israel was made very clear by the Apostle Paul. Paul knew that his country was a spiritual and political mess. Because he knew it was a mess, he spent his life trying to give the answer to their problems. He understood that the only hope for his nation was Christ. Because his nation needed its heart changed, He spent his life trying to change hearts by giving them the Gospel.
We live in dark times. When you look at our nation, it would be hard for a person not to see the problems of our nation. Our nation is politically corrupt. To not see the corruption of our nation is to bury one’s head in the sand. Our nation is morally bankrupt. When a nation legalizes murder and calls it abortion, there is a deprivation of morality. It is hard to swallow that doctors, politicians and citizens would be okay with allowing a baby to be born and then murdering it all for the sake of a “woman’s rights.” It is not hard to see how morally bankrupt our country has become. Immorality has become an accepted lifestyle in our nation. The abominable sodomite lifestyle is being pushed and accepted by politicians, media, and entertainment mediums. Humanism, which is anti-God, has become the major platforms of political parties and the curriculum for educators. I could go on with several pages of problems that our nation has, but you certainly understand that our nation is in trouble.
When one looks at the problems of our nation, one could almost become despondent and think that all hope is gone. However, when you read the verse above, you realize that there is always hope for a nation. The hope of a nation is not found in a political party, but the hope of a nation is only found in Christ. The problem with thinking that a political party will change a nation is that a political party cannot change the heart; Christ can only change the heart of an individual. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” This verse does not say if a certain political party is in control that they become a new creature, but “if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature…” Please understand, I am not saying that you shouldn’t vote to get the right people into office who will promote scriptural freedom and principles, but I am saying that the hope of any nation has never been found in politics, but it has only been found in Christ.
If the hope of a nation is Christ, that means that the hope of a nation depends upon God’s people spreading the Gospel to the lost world. The hope of a nation is not in outreach ministries or community service groups, but the hope of a nation is found by spreading the Gospel through personal soul winning. My friend, you can say that you love your country, but the proof of your love for your country is only found in the fact that you are trying to get people saved through personal soul winning. You cannot change the heart of a nation without changing the heart of the people of that nation, and the heart of people will only be changed by Christ in the heart of an individual.
Let me ask you, when is the last time you went soul winning? The hope of your country is not found in a political revival, but in a spiritual revival. A spiritual revival will only happen when God’s people become personal soul winners.
