The Importance of Seasons
Ecclesiastes 3:1
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:”
A season can best be described as a period or a stage in life. God made this world with seasons. Every year we go through spring, summer, fall, and winter. Each season is essential to the next. If you were to take one of these seasons out of Earth’s seasons, you would find that the rest of the seasons would not be as productive.
Likewise, just as God gave the Earth seasons, He also allows your life to go through seasons. There are age seasons, financial seasons, relationship season, and life seasons. Whichever season God has placed you in, He has a purpose and lessons for that season. The verse above says, “To every thing there is a season…” In other words, no matter what you do in life, you must identify the seasons of what you are doing, and then you must learn the lessons and stay within those seasons if you want to live life to its fullest. Let me teach you several lessons concerning seasons.
First, there is a purpose for every season. God didn’t put seasons in your life for no reason. As much as I dislike the winter season, I have to acknowledge that winter has a purpose. Likewise, as much as you may think that the season you are in is worthless, you would be wise to realize that God has a purpose for the season in which you are living.
Second, enjoy the season you are in; it will end. The season in which you are living has joys that you cannot have in the next season; therefore, you had better learn to enjoy the season you are in because you can’t go back and relive the previous season. Too many people miss the joy of the present season because they are trying to move ahead to the next season before its time, or they are trying to live in a past season. You will never enjoy life the way God meant for you to enjoy it if you don’t learn to live in the season of life that you are in without trying to jump to the next season.
Third, don’t rush the next season; you will miss the lessons and joy from this season. Each season has its lessons for you to learn, and by trying to live in the next season before its time, you will miss the life lessons that will help you enjoy the next season to its fullest. You will only learn the lessons for the season in which you are living by learning to make the most out of that season. Stop trying to skip seasons, and learn the lessons you need to learn in the season of life in which God has you living.
Fourth, God knows why He placed in your present season; trust His providence no matter how bad or good this season may be. God did not make a mistake with the season of life in which you are living. Maybe you are living in an unpleasant season or a season of trials; God has a purpose for that season, and you will miss that purpose if you don’t trust Him.
Fifth, being patient with each season of life is what makes life beautiful and the most enjoyable. The secret to enjoying life to its fullest is to let each season have its full work in your life. Verse 11 says, “He hath made every thing beautiful in his time…” My friend, God is painting a beautiful picture with the seasons of your life. You will never see the picture that God has imagined for your life if you are not patient with God and trust Him that He knows what He is doing as He paints the picture of your life. Trust God; He knows what He is doing with your life.
