“Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.”
God’s blessing on a nation has always been focused on the Gospel. In the verse above, God warned Israel that if they didn’t get busy spreading the Gospel that He would take the blessing of being the center for the spread of the Gospel away from them. Sadly, they did not listen to His warning, and Israel is no longer that place where people look to for how to spread the Gospel.
This truth has been seen throughout history. At one point in history, the Middle East was that place where the Gospel was prominent and churches were growing abundantly because of their soul-winning fervor. Most of the Pauline epistles and even the seven churches in Revelation are all churches in the Middle East that once used to be the center of the Gospel being spread. You can look to England as a place where God built great soul-winning churches that sent out preachers worldwide to spread the Gospel. However, when the churches in England lost their fire for soul winning, God took the torch from them and gave it to the churches in the United States that were soul-winning churches. Sadly, we see the United States is quickly becoming a mission field like England because her churches have become complacent with their size instead of keeping their first love of spreading the Gospel. My friend, God’s blessings on a nation and its churches depend upon whether they stay fervent in winning the lost for Christ. God promises that the nation that is bringing fruit will become the nation He places His blessing upon. A couple of lessons can be learned from this truth that can impact your life and church.
First, God doesn’t need you as much as you need God. When God chooses to take His blessing away from you, you will become nothing to everyone else. The greatest need of any church or individual is God’s hand of blessing, and the blessing is determined by bringing forth fruit. No church will ever have the hand of God upon it that doesn’t make soul winning its heartbeat. No pastor will ever see God bless his ministry unless he becomes a fervent soul winner. No individual will experience the blessing of God’s hand upon their life without bringing forth fruit through soul winning. My friend, you need God much more than He needs you. Yes, He needs you to spread the Gospel, but He can always find someone else who is willing to do the task of soul winning that you won’t do.
Second, your past fruit doesn’t excuse your lack of fruit today. Just because you used to do something doesn’t give you a reason not to do anything today. Your past fruit-bearing is your past. In other words, you are history if all you have to talk about with souls being saved is a “used to be” conversation. God is not interested in what you used to be, but what you are doing now. God uses the word “bringing,” which is a present tense word. God is saying that He wants to see fruit today. You must stop talking about the fruit of yesterday and bring forth fruit today if you want His blessings.
Do you want God’s hand of blessing on your life, ministry, or church? If you do, stop dwelling on yesterday’s results and get busy reaching the lost today. You can have God’s hand on your life and ministry IF you will get busy reaching the lost for Christ.
