“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”
One of the greatest areas where many believers struggle is in their prayer life. However, the area that produces the most for your walk with the LORD is your prayer life. Having an effective prayer life is imperative to having an impact on the lives of others.
Nobody displayed an effective prayer life better than our Saviour Jesus Christ. Throughout the Gospels, you will often find Jesus praying and seeing His prayers get answered. In fact, there was not one prayer that Jesus prayed that was not answered. Every prayer the Scriptures record of Jesus praying was answered. They were not answered because He was the Son of God, but they were answered because He prayed. There are five things you must do if you are going to have an effective prayer life like Jesus.
First, you must set time to pray if you are going to have an effective prayer life. The verse above says, “And in the morning…” The greatest prayer warriors that you know are not great prayer warriors because they pray better than you, but they are great prayer warriors because they regularly pray. The only thing that is going to help you to have an effective prayer life is to have a set time to pray. I would advise to let the morning be your set time. Before you get your day going, you need to spend time with the LORD in prayer to get the power you need to face your day. Mornings will always be the best time to pray.
Second, you must have irregular times of prayer to have an effective prayer life. The verse above says that Jesus rose up “a great while before day” to pray. I don’t know if this was a normal thing for Jesus, but I do know that it was irregular for anyone to get up so early to pray. Effective prayer warriors don’t limit their prayer time to a set time every day. Though an effective prayer warrior has a set time to pray, they also spend time throughout the day and night praying for needs that arise. Never let your time of prayer be limited to your set time; rather, go and pray whenever the LORD impresses on your heart to pray.
Third, you must get alone to have an effective prayer life. The verse above says that Jesus “went out” to pray. In other words, He had to get alone to pray. You will never have an effective prayer life if you don’t get away from the crowds to pray. The best thing you can do to have an effective prayer life is to get alone to pray. Get away from any person who could hinder your prayer time so that you can focus solely about what you need to pray.
Fourth, you must get apart to have an effective prayer life. Jesus went into a “solitary place” to pray. Get away from any thing that could pull your attention away from your time of prayer. Digital technology will take your attention away from praying. You must totally separate yourself from any thing and anyone to have an effective prayer time and life.
Fifth, you must pray to have an effective prayer life. I know this sounds elementary to bring up, but you can’t have an effective prayer life if you don’t pray. You will never have an effective prayer life as long as you think about praying. You must pray to have an effective prayer life. You must have an effective prayer life if you want your life to make an impact.
