“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
The heartbeat of God is that the world might be saved. It was the mission of Jesus to “seek and to save that which was lost.” It was the love of the Father that “gave his only begotten Son…” It is the mission of the Holy Spirit to convict lost of their need of a Saviour. This is why God says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
However, before any person can call on God, there must be an equipped believer to bring the Gospel to the lost. Certainly, the whole Godhead loves the world and wants them to be saved, but the love of God is dependent upon several things if the lost are going to hear about the wonderful love of God that can save them from the uttermost. My friend, God needs you to reach the lost. You must take the equipment He provides so that the lost can be saved. What is this team and equipment needed so that the world might be saved?
First, God’s Word is needed if a person is going to get saved. Verse 8 says, “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee…” The “word” that God is talking about are the Scriptures. No person can ever get saved without first hearing the Word of God. One of the reasons Satan is trying to change God’s Word is because he knows God’s Word has the power to convict the lost, and without God’s Word nobody can be saved. It is the King James Bible that is needed for people to get saved.
Second, a soul winner is needed to reach the lost. Verse 14 asks, “…and how shall they hear without a preacher?” The “preacher” that God is talking about is the believer who goes out soul winning. My friend, the glorious Gospel of God’s Word will never reach the lost if you won’t be the soul winner who carries it to the lost. Sadly, the power of God’s Word is not being used by many because they won’t go tell the lost how to get saved.
Third, a church is needed to send the soul winner. Verse 15 says, “And how shall they preach, except they be sent?” The sending unit for the believer is the local, New Testament Baptist church. The commission of the church is not to have social clubs or service groups, but its commission to carry the Gospel to the lost world. When a church loses its vision to send its body to reach the lost, the church has lost its purpose for existence and will lose its candlestick that gives itself a right to be called a church.
Fourth, perseverance is needed for people to get saved. Verse 16 says, “But they have not all obeyed the gospel.” Everyone won’t want to get saved, and that is why the soul winner must not be discouraged to the point of quitting. You must keep going if you want to see people saved.
Fifth, faith is needed to have a vision to reach the lost. Verse 17 says, “…faith cometh by hearing…” My friend, you must have the faith that God can save anyone, and you must have the faith to do whatever you can to get the Gospel to the lost so they will get saved.
Sixth, obedience is needed for the lost to be reached. God continues to say, “…and hearing by the word of God.” If you are not obedient to the LORD’s commission, the lost will never be reached. Let me ask you, are you a good team member? Are you equipped to reach the lost? The world needs the Gospel, and you are the one to take it to them.
