“And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.”
In Revelation 1:4 and Revelation 5:6, you will see that God talks about the “seven Spirits” of God. These seven Spirits that God is talking about is the manifold works of the Holy Spirit. In other words, these are the works that the Holy Spirit can and will do in the life of the believer.
One then wonders, what are these seven works that the Holy Spirit does? In John 14:26, we find that the Spirit comforts the believer. In Isaiah 11:1-3, we find there is a Spirit of comfort, the Spirit of wisdom, the Spirit of understanding, the Spirit of counsel, the Spirit of might, the Spirit of knowledge, and the Spirit of the fear of the LORD. The Holy Spirit can do all of these works through your life if you will allow Him to do what He wants to do for you and through you. The only reason the believer lacks in any of these areas is because they have not allowed the Holy Spirit to do these things in their life. So, how can the Holy Spirit do these works for you?
First, you must yield to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit cannot do His work through your life when you are quenching Him instead of yielding to Him. So you need comfort; yield to the Holy Spirit instead of rejecting Him. The only reason you have not found comfort for your problems is because you have not yielded to the Holy Spirit, but have instead quenched Him and not allowed Him to comfort you. This could be said about any of these works that the Holy Spirit wants to do through your life. You must yield to the Holy Spirit for Him to do His work in your life.
Second, you must be filled with the Holy Spirit. The fulness of the Holy Spirit would be letting the Holy Spirit do all of these THROUGH you. The Holy Spirit’s work in your life is done so that you can be a conduit to others instead of being a reservoir to hold for yourself. In other words, He gives you wisdom so that you can give wisdom to others. He gives you comfort so you can comfort others. He gives you understanding and counsel so you can help others in their life. Any work of the Spirit is done AS the believer gives out to others. There is no purpose for the Holy Spirit working through you if you are not doing anything that requires His services.
Third, you will only find these works of the Holy Spirit by spending time at the throne of God in prayer. Revelation 1:4 says, “…and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;” In the verse above, it says that the “seven Spirits of God” were “in the midst of the throne.” You will never find the Holy Spirit doing a work in the life of a believer who never spends time at the throne of God in prayer. Your lack of comfort, wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, and fear of God are all a direct result of you not spending time at God’s throne so the Holy Spirit can do these works through you. The amount of time you spend in prayer will be revealed by how much of these works are done through you.
Do you need one of the works of the Spirit in your life? The answer is found in serving God and spending time in prayer at God’s throne. The Holy Spirit will give you what you need IF you will become a conduit of what you need to others.
