“Moreover the spirit lifted me up, and brought me unto the east gate of the LORD’S house, which looketh eastward: and behold at the door of the gate five and twenty men; among whom I saw Jaazaniah the son of Azur, and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, princes of the people.”
Ezekiel was not a prophet who moved at his own whim, but he was a prophet who moved at the prodding of the Spirit of God. You see the evidence of this in the verse above when it says, “Moreover the spirit lifted me up…” He was sensitive to the voice and the prodding of the Spirit of God, and that is what enabled him to preach such convicting messages, and it is what brought God’s favor on his life.
The believer will never find God’s favor and blessing on their life until they are sensitive and obedient to the Holy Ghost. When you got saved, God gave you the Holy Spirit to perform several works in your life. If you allow God’s Holy Spirit to do His works, you will find that God can use your life mightily for His cause. Let me point out the works of the Holy Spirit in your life.
First, the Spirit of God lifts you up. The verse above says that the “spirit lifted” Ezekiel up. The greatest cheerleader in your life is the Holy Ghost. The reason He is called the Comforter is because He can lift you up when you are down. It doesn’t matter how bad you feel; the Holy Ghost can lift you up and encourage you if you will follow His prodding.
Second, the Spirit of God brings you to the house of God. The verse above says that the Spirit of God brought Ezekiel to the “LORD’s house.” You are revealing how much you quench the Spirit of God by how faithful you are to church. Let me make this clear; the Spirit of God NEVER leads you to stay home. In fact, the opposite is true; He prods you to go to church even when you don’t feel like going.
Third, the Spirit of God speaks to you to guide you. You will notice in Ezekiel’s life that the Spirit of God guided him away from the wrong crowd. If you listen to the Holy Ghost, He will tell you when people are not the people with whom you should associate. You can’t see the hearts of men, but the Holy Ghost can, and He will let you know when you need to avoid them. You would be wise to listen to Him when He is guiding you away from people.
Fourth, the Spirit of God reveals your sin. The Holy Spirit says in verse 5, “I know the things that come into your mind…” You may not have sins of action, but you may have sins of thought. You will find that the Holy Ghost will convict you of wrong thoughts so that He can keep you from doing wrong actions. The Holy Spirit convicts you of sin because it grieves Him, and you will know when He is grieved because it will bother you if you are saved.
Fifth, the Spirit of God will urge you to speak God’s Word to the world. Throughout Ezekiel 11, the Spirit of God urged Ezekiel to speak God’s Word to people. The easiest way to be a soul winner is to be yielded to the Holy Ghost. The boldness you need to be a witness for Christ comes when you yield to the Spirit of God.
My friend, if you are saved, you have the Spirit of God living inside of you to perform these works for you and through you. Are you listening to His voice? You will find God’s favor and blessings for your life if you let the Holy Ghost do His works in your life.
