There Is Still God

Genesis 41:14
“Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.”

We find Joseph in the early part of his life doing the same thing that many believers do, and that is he tried to manipulate God’s will. What I mean by this statement is that he tried to help God do what he wanted to be done instead of waiting on God. When he was young, he told his father and brethren the dreams of leadership he had only to find out that trying to step into God’s arena to make things happen only made his situation worse. What is discovered in Joseph’s life is when he could do nothing else, there was still God. When he found himself at the end and there seemed to be no hope, God brought Joseph to the mind of this servant at the right time for Joseph to step into God’s will for his life.

This is not the first time we see someone doing this in Scripture. Abram tried to help God’s will out by having a child with Hagar only to find out that trying to manipulate God’s placed him outside of His will and into heartache and regret. Jacob’s life was also filled with deception and manipulation. It wasn’t until he came to the end of himself and what he could do that God worked out His will by mending the relationship between his brother and him. Let me share a couple thoughts with you about this area of trying to help God out.

First, you always make things worse when you try to help God out. God doesn’t need your help to make His will happen in your life. Too many believers become impatient with God and try to hurry Him along to get them to where they believe they should be. My friend, you don’t see the big picture that God sees. He knows what your whole life holds and when He needs to allow to happen what you know to be His will. If you try to hurry God’s will along, you will find that you will make things worse.

Second, God’s will is often a waiting period before a promotion. God needs to know how much you trust Him, and the only way He can find this out is to place you in a holding pattern. The sooner you take your hands off God’s will and just wait on Him is the sooner you will find God trusting you enough to place you in the will He has for your life. As long as you try to manipulate God’s will and help Him out, the more God knows He can’t trust you with His ultimate purpose in your life. When you find yourself in the waiting period of God’s will, take your hands off the wheel of your life and trust God that He knows what He is doing in your life.

Third, when there’s nothing else you can do, there is God. Joseph learned this truth as he sat in prison wondering if anybody would ever remember him. There was literally nothing Joseph could do to get himself out of his situation, but there was still God. When you’re done trying to manipulate God’s will is when God can work His miraculous will in your life. When you have exhausted your human resources to make God’s will happen is when God can start doing God work in your life.

My friend, let me encourage you to trust God and be patient with His will in your life. He knows your name and where you live, and in His timing He will perform His will in your life. You may not agree with God’s timing, but trust Him that He knows what is best before you take that next big step in His will. You will never regret trusting God and His timing to perform His will in your life.
