“But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.”
Everything that God does is perfect. There are no mistakes with God. Everything in God’s creation has been perfectly placed, and there is nothing in this world that God made a mistake on when He created it. The fact that God made no mistake in His creation includes His creation of you. God made you the way that He knew what is best for you to fulfill the purpose of why He created you.
God uses a piece of clay in the hand of the potter to illustrate this truth. Would a piece of clay on the wheel of the potter ever tell the potter that he was making a mistake? Of course not! The clay is just a piece of dirt. The clay is nothing without the hand of the potter. The clay could not know how it could be used best because it is just a piece of clay. However, if the clay doesn’t get hard in the hand of the potter, the clay can become a beautiful piece of pottery that can be used for many things. The clay’s beauty has nothing to do with the clay, but with the potter turning it into something beautiful.
My friend, the verse above says that you are “the work” of God. In other words, God took you and made you into something for His purpose. You will never be happy in life until you fulfill the purpose for which He made you. Let me give you several thoughts concerning this truth.
First, you are just a piece of dirt without God. Do you understand that for God to choose to make you is something very special? It was Jehovah God, the almighty God, who took notice of you and made you. Without God, you would not even be living.
Second, you are not a mistake. What the world may consider a mistake is part of the beauty of God’s creation. God knew what He was doing when He made you, and what you consider a flaw in your makeup is part of God’s mind so that He could use you. Are you saying when you don’t like something about yourself that God made a mistake with you? My friend, the world may say someone is handicapped or a special needs person, but God calls them a beautiful work. God makes no mistake, and whatever your “flaw” may be is part of God’s handiwork.
Third, you have no right to question your Maker. You would not exist if it were not for God. It is God who chose to make you, and because He chose to make you, you are a part of His divine plan for the world. Stop questioning the Maker and accept His providence in your life.
Fourth, never let pride take away from how God chose to use you. One mistake that many people make is that they are used for something, and they think that they are somebody. You would be nothing if it were not for God. Keeping yourself in a proper perspective is important for God being able to continue to use you in the wonderful way that He has used you. Always remember that God’s using you has nothing to do with your power or wisdom, but it has everything to do with God’s omniscience and omnipotence.
Do you feel inadequate in life? You are not inadequate, for you are God’s creation. Do you feel that you are something? You are not, because it is God who made you. Keeping yourself in a proper perspective will enable God to continue to use you.
