Triumphing in Christ
2 Corinthians 2:14
“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.”
Triumphing is the state of being victorious. In other words, it is more than just having a victory; it is having a victory, and another victory, and continuing to have victories. This is how God wants the believer to live. God never intended for the believer to live a defeatist life. God gave the believer every weapon necessary to live, not only a victorious Christian life, but a triumphing Christian life.
The verse above says that God “always causeth us to triumph in Christ.” This verse shows the believer that you are to triumph in the Christian life until the day you die. When God uses the word “always,” He is saying that it is not just a one-time thing, but it is a continual thing to triumph in Christ. This verse is also revealing that you will have battles in the Christian walk. To triumph means you overcame an enemy. You cannot live the Christian life without battles. Another thing this verse is teaching is that if you are not triumphing, it is not God’s fault because He “causeth” you to triumph. In other words, God pushes you through the battle to victory.
My friend, the Christian mindset is to be a winning mindset. You cannot have the mind of Christ without having a mindset that you are going to win. Moreover, the Christian mindset is to achieve. To triumph means that you are achieving. There is no reason you are to live your life in defeat because God has promised to give you the victory and to triumph through Him. So, how do we triumph in Christ?
First, stop living with a defeatist attitude. Half of the battle is in your head. Having a triumphing attitude is to have an attitude of joy. Negative people are losers by choice, but people with joyful attitudes are winners through Christ. Your mindset to choose to live with a joyful attitude will do more to help you to triumph than a negative attitude will ever do.
Second, determination is the key to triumphing. Get a determination to win in everything. Don’t go into the work of the LORD thinking that you’re going to lose. Determine that you are going to succeed. There is nothing wrong with success. Determine to have big dreams of what God can do through your life by faith. There is nothing wrong with having a dream for your life. If you don’t determine to triumph, you will never see any dream fulfilled, and you will never enjoy success.
Third, never settle for good. Settling for good instead of excellence is a loser’s mindset. “I can’t” is a loser’s excuse-filled mindset to justify laziness and the lack of faith that God can help you triumph over anything. God is not a God whose ability is only to let you be as good as everyone else, but He is a God who separates you from the rest by helping you to achieve excellence. You will never enjoy the triumphing life if good is good enough for you.
Fourth, overcome your obstacles. To triumph means you had to overcome something to triumph. There is something about seeing an obstacle and determining that you will overcome it one way or another. Never let obstacles stop you. God expects and equips you to overcome any obstacle that hinders you from doing His will. The only reason you are not triumphing is because you choose not to triumph. Don’t let defeat be your way of life. Determine to triumph and you will enjoy the triumphing life through Christ.
