2 Chronicles 2:1
“And Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.”
“He is a determined little fellow.” This is what you will sometimes hear about a young child who is so determined to figure things out or to get something done. When my daughter was young, she was a very determined young lady who would come to tears when she struggled to get it done. To her credit, she didn’t let her frustration stop her until she accomplished what she was determined to do.
Determination seems to be a lost character trait in our day. Many people are so passive about life that they don’t care if what they started to do is accomplished. However, turning your determination into results is much different. You can be determined to do something, but getting to the results part of determination is what separates many from success and failure. Solomon was determined to build a house for the LORD, and his determination ended with great results. Determination without results is a complete waste of mental energy. It is good to be determined to do things, but it is better to stay determined until you get the results about which you are determined. There are several things that must happen if you are going to turn your determination into results.
First, there must be resolve if you are going to turn determination into results. You have to be determined that nothing will keep you from doing what you desire to do. Determination without resolve is like a candy wrapper without candy; it leaves you empty. You will never turn determination into results without resolve.
Second, there must be plans if you are going to turn determination into results. It is wonderful to be determined to do something, but how are you going to get it done? You are sure to get nothing done when you have no plans on how to do it.
Third, there must be separation if you are going to turn determination into results. There are going to be people who will hinder you from doing what you are supposed to do. You must separate from these people if you are going to have results in your life. It doesn’t mean that these people are bad people; it simply means that they will keep you from getting done what you are determined to get done.
Fourth, there must be action if you are going to turn determination into results. All the determination in the world means nothing if you don’t set out to do it. Determination without action is simply an empty dream. At some point, you must step out and do what you say you are determined to do. You can’t be afraid of failure because failure will come; however, you must take action now if you are going to turn your determination into results.
Fifth, there must be flexibility if you are going to turn determination into results. Some of your plans are not going to work out, but you must be flexible to take what life gives you if you are going to turn your actions into results.
Sixth, there must be focus if you are going to turn determination into results. Don’t let anything sidetrack you from what you are doing. At the end of the day, results are the only thing that really matters. You can talk all day about what you are “determined” to do, but results are what validate your determination. Don’t let anything pull you away from what you are trying to do, and a finished product will be the result.
