What Will Set You Apart

post-title

Leviticus 8:12 “And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron's head, and anointed him, to sanctify him.”

There has always been a yearning in the heart of many to be different from everyone else. The youth of today try to be so different from everyone else with their hairstyles and clothing only to be so much like everyone else. Preachers are trying to make their church so different from everyone else by changing what they believe only to be like everyone else.

The answer to being different from everyone else is not in changing what you believe or who you are, but the answer to being different from everyone else is to have God’s anointing hand on your life through the power of His Holy Spirit. The verse above says that Moses poured “the anointing oil upon Aaron's head, and anointed him, to sanctify him.” The anointing oil has always been a type of the Holy Spirit. However, I want you to notice that the anointing oil on Aaron sanctified him. The word “sanctify” means to be set apart. In other words, it was the anointing on Aaron’s life that set him apart from every other person in his generation.

In the Scriptures, you will find those who were set apart may have been a bit different than others, but what truly set them apart was not the physical or appearance differences but the power of God. What was it that set Jesus apart from all the spiritual leaders of His day? Yes, Jesus’ doctrine was different from others, but that is not was set Him apart from the rest. There were others in Jesus’ day that had different doctrine than the spiritual leaders of their day, but they were not set apart from the rest. It was the Holy Spirit’s power that set Jesus apart from the rest.

What was it that set Elijah apart from the seven thousand that had not bowed the knee to Baal? Elijah was not the only one taking a stand in His day. There were seven thousand others who took a stand against Baal like he did, but the difference between Elijah and the seven thousand was that Elijah has the power of God on his life. The Scriptures are filled with examples of people who were set apart, not because they were different in style, but because of the power of the Holy Spirit on their lives. There are many who were set apart like John the Baptist, Stephen, the Apostles, the Christians of the early church, and the Apostle Paul that the society of their day knew there was something different about them, and that difference was that they had the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon them.

The answer to being different is not to be more shocking than others in your preaching. The difference is not in dynamics, personality, or clothing styles, but the difference that will set you apart from the rest is to have the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon you. The difference is not found in changing your methods, but the difference is found in having the power of God on your life. You can change your methods to try to attract more people, but that doesn't change your lack of God’s power. It is never a need to change what has already worked, but it is a need to change your source of power that will set you apart from the rest.

My friend, God’s power is available to you as it has been for every believer since Christ went to Heaven. If you want to be set apart from the rest, stop trying to set yourself apart through methods and be set apart by having the power of God on your life. God’s power on your life will make you different from the majority.
