“And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?”
Jesus is just about to face the darkest hour of His life, and if there were ever a time that His followers should be standing with Him, you find that they were not. Jesus faced the darkest hour of His earthly life alone. Those whom He had healed were nowhere to be found. Those whom He had comforted were not there to comfort Him. Those whom He changed their life from bondage were unappreciatively not with Him when He was in bondage. Sadly, Jesus found Himself alone amongst the mobs who wanted Him killed.
As Jesus stood alone before Pilate, he asked the enemies of Christ, “What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?” This question is the greatest question that must be asked of all believers. What will ye do with Christ? When I study the followers of Christ in this dark hour, I find there were four ways that they treated Christ of which every believer must beware.
Let me ask you, what will ye do with Christ? Will you “conveniently betray” Him as Judas Iscariot did? Sadly, there are many today who have betrayed Christ for something they considered better. There are many sell-out believers who choose money over Christ. There are many believers who once used to serve the LORD who have jumped to the other side to attack the very One who they accepted as Saviour. My friend, what has Christ ever done to you that you would betray Him? If you are looking for a way to conveniently betray the way of Christ, you will be sure to find it.
Let me ask you, what will ye do with Christ? Will you forsake Him because of how unpopular He is? Many believers have abandoned Christ because things have not turned out the way they thought they should turn out in their walk with Christ. You will find that you will have many opportunities to forsake Christ if you are looking for the easiest way to live the Christian life. You are going to have to determine that you will continue following Christ closely when the hard times of life come.
Let me ask you, what will ye do with Christ? Will you follow Him afar off when times get tough? Sadly, there are many who don’t want to be known as the zealous believer who gives everything they have for the sake of Christ. One of the greatest hindrances to the work of the LORD making an impact in this world are believers who follow Christ at a distance. This world doesn’t need believers who are following Christ afar off but are closely walking by His side, even in those times when it is not popular to walk closely with Him.
Let me ask you, what will ye do with Christ? Will you follow Him secretly? Joseph of Arimathaea followed Christ secretly because of his fear of what might happen. You cannot be a secret disciple and influence people for Christ. We are not to take our light and hide it from the world, but we are to boldly let our light shine, which Joseph finally did after the death of Christ.
My friend, don’t let these four examples be the testimony of your walk for Christ. Let me challenge you to determine now that you will stand for Christ and with Christ boldly, even in the darkest hour. The need for this world is the believer who follows Christ at His side, for it is only at the side of Christ that you will reach the lost with Christ’s Gospel.
