When Heaven’s Windows Close

post-title

2 Chronicles 7:13-14 “If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

The windows of Heaven represent the blessings of God and answered prayers. The fact that Heaven’s windows can be opened also means that they can be shut. Solomon realized this great truth, but he also realized that there are reasons for which Heaven’s windows close.

Have you ever been in a situation when it seems as if God has closed Heaven and prevented His blessings from coming? Has it ever seemed as if your prayers are not being answered? When these times happen, the verses above show the believer what they should do to get God to open the windows of Heaven again.

First, recognize that Heaven’s windows are closed. It is a great mistake to think that Heaven’s windows are open, especially when they are closed. You are living in denial when you know that God has closed Heaven’s windows. You will never get those windows open again until you first recognize that for some reason God has closed Heaven’s windows.

Second, humble yourself when Heaven’s windows are closed. Maybe the reason that God has closed Heaven’s windows is because you have become too arrogant or too filled with pride, and God had to close those windows to get the pride out of you. Sometimes God’s blessings cause us to think too highly of ourselves, and God must close Heaven’s windows to humble us so that we will look back up to Him.

Third, continue to pray when Heaven’s windows are closed. The worst thing that you can do when Heaven’s windows are closed is to stop praying. You don't know what could be hindering your prayers from being answered, so don't stop praying just because it seems that Heaven’s windows are closed to your prayers. It could be that your prayers are being answered; it is just that your answers have not yet arrived.

Fourth, seek God's face when Heaven’s windows are closed. Not only should you see God’s face in prayer, but you seek His face through His Word. It is a great time for you to spend more time in God's Word when it seems that Heaven’s windows are closed. It could be that God has closed Heaven’s windows so that He can teach you more from His Word. It is often in those silent periods when our prayers are not being answered and blessings have stopped that we learn more from God’s Word than if we had the blessings of God flowing from Heaven. Never stop reading God's Word despite the fact that Heaven’s windows are closed.

Fifth, get rid of sin when Heaven’s windows are closed. One reason God closes Heaven’s windows is to get sin out of your life that is preventing Him from using you and blessing you as He desires to use you and bless you. One of the greatest times for you to do some soul-searching is when God's blessings have stopped and your prayers are not being answered. Don't be so in love with sin that you are too stubborn to get rid of sin when Heaven’s windows have closed. I would much rather have God’s blessings on my life to reap eternal blessings than enjoy sin for a season and reap heartache for life.
