“Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye are passed over Jordan into the land of Canaan;”
There should come a day in every Christian’s life when they decide they are no longer going back to the world. The future of what the LORD does through you is dependent upon you choosing to no longer go back to the world and going all-in for Jesus Christ. Until you get to that point in your life, you will constantly go back-and-forth between serving the LORD and the world, and you will never enjoy the Christian life to the extent that He wants you to enjoy it.
When Israel came to the Jordan River, that was their chance to cross over and never again think about going back to Egypt. The Jordan River was that separating point in their journeys when they stopped looked back to Egypt and chose to conquer the Promised Land. God’s original intent for Israel was to cross over Jordan as seen in the verse above when it says, “When ye are passed over Jordan…” In God’s eyes, it was not a matter of if they passed over, it was a matter of when. The Jordan River was that true separating point from Egypt that changed their mindset and focal points of what they were going to do. Just like Israel, when you decide to no longer go back to Egypt and pass over your Jordan, three things will change in your thinking process.
First, you will acquire a separating mindset. In other words, you will never enjoy the Christian life until you stop looking back to Egypt and determine to completely separate from worldly influences. Christian, the reason you need to separate from the world is because God can never fully use you when you are still thinking of going back. You will never experience faith victories as long as you consider going back to the world. Let me encourage you to stop straddling the fence between the world and serving God, and go all-in for the LORD by making a total separation from allowing the world to influence your lifestyle and entertainment.
Second, when you cross over your Jordan, you will acquire a driving forward mindset. When Israel crossed over the Jordan River, their mindset went from a wandering mindset to a forward mindset. One of the biggest reasons you need to separate from the world is so that you begin going forward in the Christian life. You cannot go forward as long as you are looking back to the world. God’s mindset is a forward mindset. When you cross over your Jordan, every decision you make must be a forward moving decision if it is going to please the LORD. The reason the LORD’s direction is forward is because it is a faith direction. A faith mindset is always a forward movement. The faith mindset causes you to move forward, which forces you to trust the LORD every step of the Christian life.
Third, when you cross over your Jordan, you will acquire a conquering mindset. The greatest thing about separating from the world is that you will desire to conquer great things for the LORD. The conquering mindset is a result of a faith mindset. Faith forces you to conquer if you are going to move forward. People who make the decision to no longer go back to the world will be people who choose to do great things for the LORD.
My friend, it’s time to cross over your Jordan. It’s time to stop looking to the world for its approval and go forward and conquer for the LORD. You will find total enjoyment in serving the LORD when you make the decision to cross over.
