2 Chronicles 1:1
“And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly.”
One of the most dangerous times in any Believer’s life is when they become spiritually strong. Strength had led many leaders down the wrong path, caused many Believer’s not to be guarded with their walk with God, and it has destroyed many a strong Christian. Every Believer must guard themselves when they become strong.
The verse above says that Solomon “was strengthened in his kingdom.” One of the great things about Solomon was that he didn’t let his strength destroy him. When you study his life, you will find several things you must do when you become strong.
First, don’t get comfortable. A mistake many people make when they become strong is they stop doing what made them successful and strong. Just because you have strength doesn’t mean that you can’t fall. Never let your strength cause you to let up. Whatever got you to the point where you are strong is what you need to continue to do to stay strong.
Second, don’t separate from those who helped you get strong. Many people helped you get to where you are, and you must be careful that you don’t become too big for them. Never let success cause you to leave those who helped you to achieve your success.
Third, don’t stop doing spiritual work. Solomon continued to serve the LORD in the capacity he served him when he wasn’t a king. Never let success cause you to stop doing what you did to become a spiritual success. Keep serving in every area of ministry because the LORD will be pleased with your continued service to Him.
Fourth, stay humble. In verse 8, Solomon realized that he was nothing and that God was everything. You must be very careful that you don’t let success and strength cause pride to fill your heart. Many people were humble and easy to get along with until they gained position, strength and power. My friend, always remember that the LORD can take you down as quickly as He gave you strength. Don’t let a little success cause you to think more highly of yourself. Keeping a humble mindset will keep the blessings of God coming.
Fifth, guard your heart. God blessed Solomon because it was in his heart to want wisdom to help the people of God. Be sure you don’t let the wrong influences into your heart. Just because you achieved position doesn’t give you a license to do what you want to do. If anything, you are going to have to guard your heart more carefully now that you have gained strength and success. Satan has marked you and will do everything he can to take you down. If you can keep your heart right with the LORD, you can keep the blessings of God coming.
Sixth, don’t forget God. Herein is where many Believer’s have stumbled. It was God who promoted you, and He is the One who can demote you. Just look at Job to see how quickly success can flee. Always stay close to the LORD. Keep yourself in the Scriptures daily. Be sure to spend time with the LORD on a daily basis. Don’t forget that the LORD is the source of all strength, and you must keep Him first and serve Him if you want your strength to continue.
