“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.”
In a day when things are constantly changing, it is hard to know where you can turn to count on something being the same all the time. Churches are changing their services from traditional to contemporary. Preachers who once stood and trumpeted truth have replaced preaching with plays and dramas. Believers who you once thought would be stalwarts of faithfulness have quit on God and are living for the world. It is almost as if you don’t know where to turn because you don’t know what you can count on.
I have served the LORD my entire life, and though man and institutions have changed and failed, I have always found that you can count on the LORD. Throughout my lifetime, I have seen a lot of changes. I have watched churches that once used to be leaders in Christianity either change or close their doors. I have watched men who I thought would never change become men who I would scratch my head and wonder if they really believed what they once preached. However, when I look at the verse above, I find three things about the LORD that you can count on, that no matter what happens around you, these three things you can hold onto for a horizon and anchor for the soul. Let me share these three things about the LORD that will comfort you.
First, the LORD is righteous. This means two things. First, it means that there is no sin in God. You can count on the fact that while sin may abound about you, you can always look to the LORD to see where there is no sin. Second, it means that the LORD is always right. When you live in a world that makes you wonder what is right, you can always look to the LORD to see what is the right thing to do. He is not only righteous in the fact that He has no sin, but He is righteous in the fact that He has never been wrong.
Second, the LORD is true. The fact that God is righteous verifies that everything He gave us in His Word is true. My friend, every promise in God’s Word has never failed. When you look to what you can count on in this world, you must look no further than to the Word of God, because His Word is true. In times when lies seem to be accepted as truth, you can still look to the LORD and know that whatever He has promised, and whatever He has told you that He will do is true.
Third, the LORD is faithful. This means that no matter what may fail in life, you can place the anchor of your soul in the LORD knowing that He is faithful to do what He has promised that He will do. You may feel that your life is unraveling, but there is one constant the believer can hold onto when their world around them is crumbling, and that is that the LORD is faithful to help the believer in all that they face. The LORD has never failed to come through with His ever-abiding presence, or in His ability to help you through hardships, or in rewarding the believer for the work that they have done because He is faithful to do all that He says He will do.
I don’t know what you are facing today, but these three constants about the LORD are unchangeable and dependable. Your world may seem to be coming apart, but the LORD is the constant upon which you can depend. Never despair; He is always faithful. Never wonder; He is always true. Never be concerned; He is always righteous.
