You’re Not Invincible

Revelation 9:20 “And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:”

One of the saddest statements you can read in God’s Word is found in the verse above. The people in the verse above had just gone through horrific judgment, and while many around them were killed, somehow they made it through without being killed. You would think that after seeing all that had happened to the people before them that it would cause them to reconsider their life and their position, but it did not. Instead, the verse above says about them, “And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands…”

Instead of changing their wicked ways, these people continued to do the same things that brought the wrath of God on them and those who were killed. I’m sure these people must have felt a bit invincible as making it through this wave of judgment emboldened them to continue in their sin instead of humbling them to repent of their ways. Sadly, what these people had not considered is that they may escape the judgment of God’s wrath on earth, but they will never escape the judgment of God’s wrath when He casts them into an eternal Hell. One day these people will realize that they were not as invincible as they thought.

Let me transition from the end times to now and talk to two sets of people. The first set of people I want to talk to are the saved who continue in their sin who think they are getting away with their wicked lifestyle. You can live in sin for a while, but payday will come. You may be in the season of sin where you enjoy its pleasures, but every season ends, and heartache will come when the pleasures end. You may think that you are not like everyone else who got away with their sin, but heartache is on the way, and it will come suddenly without you expecting it. You can always pick your sin, but you cannot pick your consequences. Galatians 6:7-8 is still true when it says, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” May I remind you that Samson thought he was invincible until he was grinding in the judgment of his sin like an animal. The prodigal son thought he was invincible until he was desiring to eat from the slop of the swine. Saul thought he was invincible until he felt the spear of God’s judgment strike him unexpectedly. My friend, you are not invincible, and now is the time to repent before you suffer total destruction from your sin.

One other crowd I want to talk to is the lost who pretend to be saved. You may have tricked others into believing that you are saved, but you will one day suffer an eternal Hell if you don't repent and trust Christ. Nobody who has rejected Christ has made it to Heaven. Just because you have made it this far without dying doesn't mean that you will not die. Hell is real! You will die! You will face an eternal judgment if you don't get saved. Instead of waiting until the end, get saved now. The feeling of invincibility while you live in sin is a lie that is blinding you to sin’s impending consequences. Repent now while you have a chance because once you die, you will regret for an eternity that you trusted the false feeling of invincibility.
